WOW or WIP’s 31st May 2017 Diamond Hill

This week has been spent mostly on DH during the day but at night it has been spent hand quilting Laure’s quilt roughly 20 hrs this week.   But it will be ready for this winter now and another WIP finished this year YAHHHHHH

Then you discover you have made a very bad calculation mistake along the way on your completed blocks or project like I did the other night!!!!!  When I was trying out some squares around my DH blocks they would not fit they were to long, finally I realised it was not thesqaures that were wrong my block was to small!!!! Horrors I had two blocks cut at 17  3/4 inches instead all at 18 3/4s as I had planned..  I had cut out two black sqaures at the beginning of DH and started my first blocks, came to my 3rd block cut out two more black sqaures, my cutting table is always set up and is in the same place aways , I know my cutting mat back to front and I start my low numbers to my right all ways well a week before I cut out my next two blocks my cutting table had to be moved one day and every thing was moved but put back as it was by my hubby, what I did not think to check was my mat lying the right way!!!!!  No it was not but with out checking I just cut were I knew my 18 1/2 bit line was again with out really looking and counting  each of those wee sqaures and I have ended up with two under size completed blocks!!!!!  My cutting mat is now the right way again!!!!!

One thing I have learnt in the art world often a mistake can be come a focal point or improve a design if you let it’ Ive yet to find a mistake that you can not fix or even improve on, just don’t panic to much and think about what can I do to make this work, don’t try covering it up, make it more obvious or think about what you can do to make it look like it was meant to be like that!!!!!  I have covered up many blood stains on my quilts by embrodering bee’s on them or bullion roses.

My DH blocks 2 the right size and 2 TO small,  If I sew a 3/4 inch piece on around those smaller two pieces its going to be so fiddly to work on with those extra seams right on the edge,  what if I cut them all back as far as possible and add new strips to them all this will make them all look the same,  what if I go radical and add a different coloured fabric like a border????  may be yellow or aqua?????  No thats a little to much with the bordes that follow,  Finally I came up with this idea.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

May be I could do some thing like this?????

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

3 new borders sewn on to my 17 1/2 inch block, This is looking OK I think?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

????????

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Yes I can live with this and I have cut out 12 more pink mottled stips and ironed them in half for the next 3 blocks now.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Taken this morning and I’m still happy with it, I now have a 19inch block instead of a 17 1/2 inch block LOL  looking forward to seeing the 4 blocks done like this now.

Al

All DH blocks are now  waiting to be finished applqiued by hand or machine.

Block 3 completly ironed down ready for sewing.

I finished cutting out Block 3 earlier in the week it is completly ironed down ready for sewing.

Completed block all cut out.

Finished

Finished making those leaves Sunday night they realy made me think,  till I deicded to make that tiny tiny piece a big piece with  a big seam behind, it was so easy then.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Top two pieces my two tones leave shapes, notice my smaller piece is MUCH bigger than what I end up with top leaf all you see is a slither of pale green but behind in the lower leaf you can see how big it really was it is showing up as white as thats the backing of the ironon fussing.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

During the week I made up some sqaures in a sqaure for my DH blocks what a disaster I think the little red sqaures look like they ahve measles LOL  also the red is to red it should be more in the pink tones plus I again did not read my pattern corectly and cut my fabric 2 inchs far far to big!!!!!  So now its back checking through my stash or may be I will have to give in and buy some new fabric for those squares?????   This was when I dicovered my block had been cut at 17 1/2 inches instead of 18 1/2 inchs!!!!!

I pulled these out to may be do one or two blocks!!!!!  I think they may be from around 1930 Tulip Basket.  I bought them online 10 years ago from Kansaa.  A couple of pieces of the applqiue pieces are missing,  there are 23 blocks and around 30 basket pieces.  Mos tof the embrodery has been done except for 4 blocks and these have the applqiue applqiued down in running stich in 4 threads of DMC I only paid a few dollars for them postage cost a few dollars too.  I just did not want them chucked out in to the rubbish so bought them.

Looking forward to one day finishing these baskets for th eunknown quilter who spent hours embrodering the stems and leaves on most of these blocks

Appliquéd down using a running stitch.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These running stitiches are so small and even, they look like they have been done by a sewing machine!!!!!

Pieces are just cut out and marked b pencil to show were to turn under and baste with thread for appliqe.

Top template of cardboard for cutting out the basket shapes Bottom cardboard is slightly heavy weight and slashed to be able to mark through them  with a pencil on the basket fabric for embrodiery.

There are 4 cardboard templates with the blocks  Tulip shape and a small leaf shap to mark were to do the running stitches in side the tulip to give the tulip shape.

WOW or WIP’s 24th May 2017 with Esther Aliu.

This week I have spread my self and have tried to make some head way on my SG blocks.  I even mamaged to complete block 4 to the stage where every thing is now ironed down so it is here to stay.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

At last every thing is ironed down, I realy lost my confidence with this block so put it up on Esther’s BOM group to see what members thought feed back was pretty positive so quickly ironed every thing down before I could change my mind LOL Vase and lock are all machine applqiued down now to start on the leaves and finally will do the flowers by hand.

I spent 4 hrs on Monday thread painting my SG bird I’ve FINALLY completed him!!!!   I made him up months ago but I wanted to thread paint him with the sewing machine I never done this before and I just went by  what I could see how Jenny did her bird.  Its not perfect by any means but hes good enough to join the block LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My bird is finally spot glued  down to my back ground and hopefully by Wednesday he will be machine appliqued down to the background fabric.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Close up of my elusive bird, now to make him a chain!!!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

He looks pretty wicked !!!!!

With all blocks in place I took a photo of them all together  I have laid them in a sqaure as it’s a mystrey I have no idea how they will be laid out yet.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ive added some background fabric in the centre so it does not look like it is a hole !!!!!! All 4 blocks we have recieved so far from the mystrey BOM by Esther ALiu for 2017 called The Seret Garden.

Ive been doing some hand echo quilting on Laure’s quilt in the evenings this week.

I have completed echo quilting around 3 dresden plates now and 1/2 way around the centre one

I have completed echo quilting around 3 dresden plates now and 1/2 way around the centre one so good progress on this one which I’m happy about.

I have picked up my Diamond Hill by Esther Aliu again now that I have caught up with my SG blocks  I started block 3 yesterday, as I’m doing all these blocks with iron on fussing I’m able to cut out all those petals for the flowers in one piece this sure has speeded up the proccess so much I must admit I admire all those memebrs who made this block doing turned under edges it must have been so fiddly and taken soooo much time.

The start!!!

The start!!!  Those flower heads have iron on fussing behind them and they are cut out in one piece.

Added a little more time to stop after midnight I canr't just a little more!!!!!

Added a little more time to stop after midnight I can’t I’ll just add a little more!!!!!

UP Date 10pm Wednesday

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

10pm I’ve just finished cutting out the last of my pieces for DH  May be with luck I will get them all irondown tomorrow.  This is a lovely block to make.  Frustrating part is I can not find the rest of my vase pieces I cut them all out at the same time to make sure I had enough fabric!!!!!!!!

WOW or WIP’s with Esther Aliu May 17th 2017

Why do I blog????  Because I like to see what other quilters do and share on Esther’s WOW or WIP’s each week thats why LOL  I love to hand sew even mending DS ‘s jeans by sashiko hand quilting LOL

I mended two pairs of my DS favourite jeans!!!!!

I thought I’d share a wonderful gift that was given to me several years ago, it is one of my most prized possessions.  I use it every day but put it away in a box special box when I’m not using it to keep it clean and hopefully one day some one else may cherish it as much as I do?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Needle book is about 3inchs by 5inchs.  Round disc is a pin holder,  and oval holder I keep my thimbles in.    I cherish these.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Such incredible ribbon work on silk.  !00’s of hours of work went in to making these beautiful pieces.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These are so tiny I had trouble focusing them with my camera.

Where I was up to last Thursday but it was still Wednesday some where else in the world LOL

My first 3 block of Esther Aliu’s mystery BOM for 2107 called The Secret Garden and it is a beautiful beautiful design so far Block 4 has just been released but I’ve just started that block.

Finished and on its

Finished and on its way to its new destination.

When I first started quilting I lived in a remote area and a group of us would meet weekly and share what we were doing in patchwork. We were all beginners and learnt as we went along form each other our mistakes and our challengers. This was one of the challengers 8 of us did, we had to make a background out of scraps roughly 36inch sqaure give it a name appliqué some thing to the square and pass it on secretly each week till it came back to you.  Below is mine after 8 other quilters added some thing to it. It was a lot of fun and we all learnt so much.  Remember none of us were quilters just wanting to learn about it and had no teachers or books LOL  We just made it up as we went.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Last week when DGD was here I was looking for some thing and she saw this, I hung it over the end of my cutting table and she just sat there for ages looking at it then we played eye-spy with it. I said would you like it Yes Please Nanna I suggested I finish sewing it for her and she said could we do sew it together next time I come,   so today is that day. We have cut out a backing and some high-loft wadding as she likes cuddly quilts. Next week we will pin and may be start sewing it.

The undergrowth is out of hand as its been a long wet, I cleaned up this area one day during the week.  Its a never ending job after the wet.

The ferns are over taking the area around the herbs!!!!

The ferns are over taking the area around the herbs and where we like to sit in the winter sun!!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Same place but after 2 days weeding, now you can see all the herb containers and a young pineapple growing to the left of the last container on the left!!!!!  there is still a metre square to clear so we can use the top area to have our morning and avo coffee up there in the winter sun again.   In a months time the heliconia’s will be up 8inchs and in 6 months all flowering again.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was taken over 3 weeks ago.  the last 5 months of a long wet the vegetation has taken over!!!!!

To day my DGD 4 helpe

Same place as above photo. To day my DGD 4 helped me finish puling those giant fern and now you can see down the boundary fence at last.  Ive pulled at least 4 trailer loads of rubbish from here.  This causes a draft of air movement through the land we live on and helps keep the mossies away they don’t like wind or draft movement This also helps dry out the under growth and stops the mosses breeding in it.

Update:- 4.30pm Wednesday 10th  This avo I have pulled my 3rd SG block I made this up weeks ago just after it was released had it at this stage nothing but the vase and cat ironed down when accidentally some one moved it and my wee dog jumped on top of it!!!! all those pieces went every where there are still two stems missing one is the main one the flows down the front of the vase hopefully I can find enough fabric to make a new one????

There are two stems and two leaves still issing some where in my workroom area?????

I have spent the avo rebuilding my block 3 of TSG There are two stems and two leaves still issing some where in my workroom area?????  Now I need to make the rim of the vase and iron down those pieces before it happens again LOL

Spent the rest of the avo and early evening on my bloc

10pm Wednesday. Spent the rest of the avo and early evening on my block and now its all ironed down so I can not loose any pieces again or have to start from scratch  again!!!!!

Update Wednesday some where in the world but not here in OZ !!!!! Took the photo this morning in the daylight.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Colours are truer in the daylight I took this photo this morning its still Wednesday some where in the world!!!!!

Its been a slow week as far as productivity goes. I finished the 365quiltycircles quilt top so very pleased there.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Where I was last week These are all sewn together now and waiting to be sandwiched and then hand quilted.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

All sewn together now if you look closely they are sewn up differently than when they were laid out last week!

Then as Id finished that well on time of my 21 days allotted to it I picked up my Bargello wall quilt and have been sashiko quilting that and having so much fun just letting  needle and thread go were it wants to.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Where I was up to last time.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have quilted down the centre panel and across the bottom of the quilt now working at the top

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Close up of the bottom coloured thread is usually 4 or 3 threads of DMC

Yesterday when looking for some thing I came across a old swap or round-robyn I’d done in PNG about 20 years ago.  there were 8 of us in the swap, we had to make a 1  to 1 1/2 metre square  out of scraps of fabric we had no problem as there were no shops in PNG any way to buy new fabric LOL   Add some thing to the finsihed piece of fabric we had made and give it a name, I added the water lollies and called it The Pond!!!!  after 8 weeks this is what came back to me????  I did add the leaves in the top right hand corner afterwards as there was a large empty space there.  We were all new to quilting and had no idea but we wanted to learn and some one had read about these mystery swaps we had fun and learnt a lot LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

DGD who I was baby sitting was fascinated by it, I hung it at the end of my cutting table and DGD sat the whole time looking at it while she ate her lunch, I said do you like it “YES”  would you like me to finish for you to take home,  “can we sew it together next time I come?”  So this is what we will be doing next time she comes for the day aged 4 may be a future quilter?

.

Update on my 365quiltycircles for 2016 May 5th 2017

Today Audrey suggested I update with the group that is still continuing on their 365quiltycircles, I did not even realise it was still running!!!! How wonderful to see so many quilts completed, I’m not making one quilt but breaking my squares up to make 3 small wall quilts.  My squares are made from  silk Kimono fabric and all the circles are made from different silk fabrics that I ahve collected for around 30 years or more.

For the last  week I have been sewing my last wee squares together, I had  appliquéd all the circles  on they were just sitting in a little treasure chest waiting to be made in to a wee quilt top.

My last 21 days challenge is sewing my last 100 plus circles

Here I’m slowly sewing these wee squares in to rows then I will join these rows.  This year my challenge is working on 17UFO’s that I choose last Dec I’m linking up each month with Meredithe on Ufosin2017  Each project has 21 days. My last 21 days challenge is sewing my last 88 wee squares which I started a week ago these wee squares were all in that wee wooden-cigar box waiting!!!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

each evening I have managed to sew a row of these lovely wee squares together and some times sewn two rows together. This is where I’m up to now Friday 5th May 2017 These are all sewn in to pairs so I only have 4 more rows to sew and I will have the quilt top finished so I’ll have 3 quilt tops from my 258 squares.  I made more than 365 circles but appliquéd them on to only 258 squares.  2 quilt tops have 90 squares and this one has 88 squares and 124 circles in it. .

Box of circles cut out waiting to be hemed then applqiued on to the tiny squares.

Last year working on my second quilt top.  Box of circles cut out waiting to be hemed then applqiued on to the tiny squares.

Ufosin2017 challenge 30th April 2017

Not able to blog today so will add my blog from the 30th. Hope you all have had a great week sewing and enjoying life in general.

First once again a big thank you Meredthe  for keeping this group going and helping me keep working on these 17 WIP’s I have chosen for this year. My goal was not to finish them but to work on them and progress on them. SO far it has been working and I even have had 3 finished quilts which still amazes me LOL

I have not been able to stick to the list as I wrote it out in Jan as I’ve not been down to the city for months and need several things to work on those listed so I’m jumping around my 17 projects.

This month I completed adding the hexagons border to my 1930 GMFG these hexagons are just under 1 inch on the sides of the hexagons.  It was a marathon task I can assure you.

1930's GMFG quilt I'm still hand quilting about 1/2 way now.

1930’s GMFG quilt I’m still hand quilting it about 1/3 of the way now.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

completed wee hexagon on the right left one still needs stitching down on the edge.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Left and right borders finished.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Bottom border quilted  top waiting to be quilted

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Finally all those wee hexagons have been added to the border seen from the back I’m now hand quilting inside each wee hexagon and now realise by working on each hexagon more than one quilter made this quilt top, by the hand stitching acuratisey or in some case not so acurit LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m really happy I spent all those hrs rescuing this quilt.  I spent hrs dreaming about this unknown quilter and have now decided there were many quilters that made this quilt top not just one person.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Finally finished and I did not cut one of those hexagons in 1/2 to add the border so I’m happy.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This could be on my 2018 challenge list??? it is  also a 1930’s quilt top I have artist unknown but from the USA and made mostly of shirt fabrics. I love how fresh these hexagons look, there are a couple of bad stains but these are in the white border and this will be easy to replace and I will use a strong fabric than whats here now.

I have been doing more to my ANZ quilt which was one of my earlier challenges in the year, the challenge on this one  was to complete making the quilt top which I did, but I’m still working on it sewing those circles on by machine using satin stitch.  This is all new to me as I’ve always been a hand quilter.

I ahve been doing more to my ANZ quilt that I

I have added some pelion to the back for stabilising and padding for  inside the circles, I will cut away the pelion from the outside of the circles you can see where I have started to cut it away.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My ANZ quilt that I’m still spending time on all though I meet the goal I’d set for this project.  My machine started to play up 5 days ago it was the tension I tried several different things and still the top thread was pulling all through to the back. Finally yesterday I put in new thread top and bottom and new bobbin and needle and it worked so I still don’t know what was wrong but I’m up and running again LOL  very very frustrating though as Ive lost 6 days of sewing on these circles.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m machine appliquéing these circles on using a satin stitch I was going to just use red thread but  it was so boring LOL  So changing using the red on the out side of the circles but the inner threads are oranges and yellows much more fun LOL

Last year I took part in the 365quilty circles 2016 which I completed, instead of making one quilt from them I’m make 3 wall quilts, one quilt is completed, one  all the tiny sqaures are sewn ready to be sandwiched and quilted and the other 88 blocks were in a little cigar box like wee jewels LOL

My last 21 days challenge is sewing my last 100 plus circles

My last 21 days challenge is sewing my last 365 quilty circles together from my 2016 challenge, there are  88 wee blocks to make up in to a wee wall art.  A few days ago they were all in that wee box????  Top two rows all joined and pressed, second two rows all joined in rows and those two rows waiting to be joined. 5th row finished and waiting for me to finish the 6th row so I can join those two rows together.  There are still 22 wee squares in the cigar box. The way its growing I will get them finished and all joined by the 21st day of this challenge.   May be even get it sandwiched for quilting,  These tiny blocks are all silk none are the same fabric and 4 1/2 inches square. . I now have all the first 6 rows joined working on the last two now.

Below are not any of my 17 chosen challengers for Ufosin217

Some thing else

Some thing else, I have a dear friend in hospital who is very sick and I made her this memory quilt of our friendship over the last 30 odd years. A little crazy wall quilt about 12inchs by 14inchs.

Back of Cotrina's quilt

Back of my friends quilt her totom is the owl.  He was to big for the front so he has the back all to himself.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I also cut out and prepped my Secret Garden mystery BOM of Esther Aliu’s 2017 BOM

Ive also been working on making my QAYG antique hanky b

Ive  been working on making my QAYG antique hanky blocks only about 4 to make now.

Came across these blocks last week

Came across these blocks last 2 weeks ago may be next year challenge LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Also this one ,  This one I’d forgotten about completely it was inside another UFO LOL  I think I will put it on point and add pieced blocks around that????

What a difference

What a difference a day makes lay this on some black fabric Bingo !!!!

One of my 17 challenges called Shields and Swords is completed and gone to its new owner see below.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I also completed sashiko quilting Joshua’s quilt and it has gone to him.

Below is not one of the 17 challenges.

Finally last but not least

Finally last but not least a project I’m sashiko quilting

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is free form sashiko quilting not embroidery sashiko quilting. Translated Sashiko means little stabs.  I want to get use to using sashiko quilting before sashiko quilting my Quilt Memory to War Mothers quilt.  I find sashiko very very addictive when I’m quilting free form.

Thanks once again Meredthe

Thanks for dropping in to see what I have been doing, I hope you have all managed to work on your projects and are making head way in to those 17 projects you choose.  Cheers ALL Glenda

WOW or WIP’s Esther Aliu 36th April 2017

Rather frightening to think it is May in a couple of days time?????  I wonder if this year is flying past you as fast as it past me????  Best part is I’m actually managing to do a lot of sewing but working mostly on WIP’s this year.  But I was tempted away from them by Esther Aliu’s beautiful BOMs this year yet again LOL

My week has been spent on every thing but what I should be doing or what I planned to do?????  I have not been 100% so spending a lot of time on the daybed in my sewing area.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My little compaion wants to sit on top of me all the time when I’m not well so I spread the quilt I was quilting on to the end of the divan so I could sew LOL Notice in the foreground the dark marks on the quilt this quilt is over 80 years old and has never been washed I’m trying to finish quilting it by hand so I can try getting some of these stains out?????

Theis

This part of my sewing room area is still not finished to cover up the ceiling that needs to be finished I have pinned an old quilt!!!!!! Its much nicer to look at !

I have been quilting the hexagons

I have been quilting the hexagons on what I thought was a 1930’s quilt but as I stitich each hexagon I’m realising it may be a lot older, notice the out side fabric that looks an older fabric than 1930????

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Notice the green hexagons have been made with several pieces of fabric sewn together to make enough fabric to cut out the hexagons!!!!! These hexagons are just under 1inch on the sides so are smallish, so this quilter wasted not even the smallest pieces of fabric, thats real patchwork in my book!!!!!!.

Do any of you make some thing and put it away carefully and find it years later and you have forgotten you even made itLOL  Well the below is one of those projects I designed years ago,

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Still not finished 2 centre flowers need to be machine appliquéd down and then I want to put this on points maybe in the centre of a pieced quilt?????

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m getting so far behind in my machine appliqué so decided to set up a machine just for it,  This sewing machine space has been there all ways but I use it more for my kitchen needs as it is at he side of my kitchen!!!!!! Last weekend it be came my appliqué area and oh how much easier it is to just plug in the machine cord and sew, slowly very slowly the circles on my ANZ quilt are been satin stitched down.  But oh my goodness it is so boring doing just satin stitch LOL  I have added a little padding behind the circles to hopefully give them some 3D effect????

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One of my views from my new sewing machine area.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Looking down to the river it was cloudy and overcast the day I took this photo.  But still lots of light for sewing.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m doing a dark red on the outer circle and any thing goes for the inside but lighter this is making it not so boring LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Over the years I have kept buying bobbins from Opp Shops for no reason LOL  Now I know why I’m rewinding all these threads on to the Janome spools and using them for this project, only thing I’m sad about you wont see them on the back after I sandwich the quilt LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Love how the lighter inner satin stitch makes it more interesting.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ive sat several hrs slowly doing the satin stitch and only made a wee dent in it so far LOL  Its an old Janome so if you try and go fast it does not look so good LOL  But it does have needle down position which makes doing this job so much easier.  After an hour I stop and do something else.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have learnt to sew so far then stop and sew back the other way so I’m not pushing all the bull of the quilt through the arm,  once I got use to it is working out OK. There is such a good light on this Janome and I all so have the light from the huge windows I’m sitting in front of.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another thing that is helping is raising the back of the machine with these door stoppers I can see so much easier with out bending my neck so much.

My DDIL has just been to Japan and brought back hand made sewing needle for me in all sizes including Sashiko needles OH my Goodness they are so so sharp,  have the finest points I’ve ever seen they just glide through the fabric. I’ve been using one this avo on my hand-quilting on those little hexagons and I can sew so much faster , and much tinier stitches as well.

Garden is dismal and so over grown we will be swallowed up by the undergrowth of the rainforest if it does not stop raining.

To day the sun pops out now and then and it is lovely to see it.

WOW 19th April 2017 with Esther Aliu

My week has been spent finishing adding the last of the hexies to the border of my 1930 GMFG hexagon quilt and making a small wall crazy quilt for a special friend who is very ill in hospital.

Front of Cotrina's quilt

Roughly 12inchs by 14 inchs. Front of Cotrina’s quilt,  all the patches are silk and all tiny pieces I have added relate to memories we have shared over the last 35 years of our friendship.

Back of Cotrina's quilt

Back of Cotrina’s quilt Cotrina’s totem is the owl.

I started with a piece of washaway freezer paper for my base.

Ive used all the colours that Cotrina loves the most.

Ive used all the colours that Cotrina loves the most.

Then used all the threads c in a rainbow

Then used all the colours in a rainbow and sewed the blocks down in herring-bow stitch with DMC thread as she loves rainbows.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then added lots of memories we shared.

I have a tiny 1 1/2 inch Belgium Lace owl that I planed to use at the base on the pink fabric but still have not found it!!!! SO ended up making a wee owl yesterday but it was to big and chunky for that pink patch so adding it to the back of the quilt so this wee quilt can be hung either way.

Back of Cotrina's quilt

Back of Cotrina’s quilt. Today I completed sewing the border down on the back of the quilt by hand. Now it is ready to go off to Cotrina.

Last night I added the final hexagon to my border of the 1930’s GMFG quilt after years of struggling with it.  I wish I knew as much about how to do it 5 years ago as I do now LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Monday added my last hexagon to the border.  right side of border the hexagons on the edge have been quilted so sitting nice  and flat.  left hand side waiting to be quilted by hand.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Just showing the difference between quilted and not quilted border.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Last night finished quilting all those border hexagons.

Now stitiching down all thsoe

Now stitiching down all those  wee hexagons on the back side of the border pink one is stitched down and working on the green one now. I have 32 left to do then finally the border is complete YAYYYYYYYY

1930's GMFG quilt I'm still hand quilting about 1/2 way now.

This is the first bed quilt I ever made over 20 years ago and it is still been used daily!!!!

Thank you for dropping in to see me, hope you all managed as much sewing this week as I have Cheers Glenda

WOW or WIP’s with Esther 12th April 2017

20150824_101424 2

Working on  a lovely old 1930’s (I think) Grandmother Garden quilt.  I bought this quilt on eBay many years ago and have been slowly quilting and making a hexagon border for it.

From this !!!!

edge of the quilt of the 1930's quilt here the green fabric is faded by been left in the light of sun for some time. Wadding is very frayed too.

Edge of the 1930’s quilt,   green fabric is very faded by been left in the light or sun for some time and has rust marks on the edges. Wadding is very frayed too.

To this

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Over the last week I have concentrated only one repairing and finishing the edges of this quilt, I’ve made 80 hexagons out of washaway freezer paper, 40 I’ve covered and basted in 1930 reproduction fabrics, other 40 I have put behind the outer edge hexagons and sewn the fabric to them.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve  hand quilter up to the last row of hexagons.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Wadding goes out past the last hexagons.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ive not seen this kind of wadding here in OZ it is slightly brushed and feels like a woven cotton  fabric.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m cutting the wadding back to 1/2 way down the last row of hexagons.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ive had to resew all the seams on the sides of all the outer hexagons making the hexagons  1/8th smaller as they are to wide and were fluting.   then Ive placed washaway freezer templates on the back of each hexagon.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Placing new hexagons for correct placement.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I lay the hexagaons I’ve made for the border along top of the quilt on the last row of hexagons to get the correct placement, pin them together then sew them all together in a chain but keep checking that they are placed correctly.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

when all are sewn together pin down on the right side and whip stitch the new hexagons to the prepared last row of hexagons on the border.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Preparing the last row of hexagons on the quilt. Pin the seams over these wash away freezer paper hexagons.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

whipped stitched along the top of the hexagaons.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then flipped the hexagons over to the back and then Walla!!!!  a nice finished hexagon border, waiting to be quilted through all the thicknesses two of washaway freezer paper and two of fabric, it is slow as I have to make one stitch at a time.  So far I have done two sides of the quilt.

Update at 3pm Wednesday 12th after quilting those wee hexagons on the border for 5 hrs today I have 3 boarders quilted I need to stitch down the turned hexagons and Ive completed 3 sides of the quilt,  I need to make 20 more hexagons cut our 40 more washaway freezer paper hexagons and start the last border.!!!!  I can see day light at the end of a long long tunnel since I brought this back from the USA 10 years ago.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After quilting a 1/4 of an inch inside all the hexagons  I then stitched down around the otter edges of the hexagons so there is no chance of them been caught and lifting.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Showing you what I needed to finish and finished border.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Close up. some of the edges were so frayed I had to make smaller hexagons to fit on to it.

Ive managed to complete this edge of the quilt one more edge to do then I can wash it for the first time in around 80 years LOL

Every stitch I make to finish this quilt for the unknown quilt Im thinking about her.

Every stitch I make to finish this quilt for the unknown quilt Im thinking about her.

What wonderful fabrics she was able to choose for this quilt they were not left over scraps.

What wonderful fabrics she was able to choose for this quilt they were not left over scraps.  I’m about 1/2 way through quilting all these wee hexagons I’m quilting 1/4 of an inch inside each one so they will be strengthen.

In the garden today.

It started out a dark miserable day not raining but close

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Been so wet I’m seeing new lichens on the young trees this year.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

1  1/2 weeks fronds here ready to be disposed of.  Every morning I pick up dead fronds.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Our ground is so wet the ants are using this garden hose to travel across the lawn!!!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A ginger I think???  I popped it in here to see if it would grow, to be honest I’m not sure if its ginger or tumric?

Not a very interesting blog this week but I want a record of working on this Grandmothers Garden quilt and this is the best way for me to have it.  Thanks for dropping in to my very very wet part of the world at present. Going to link now with Esther Aliu on her WOW or WIP’s today  Cheers Glenda

WOW or WIP’s with Esther Aliu 5th April 2017

1/4 of the year has gone but not sure were as I’m sure I did not see all those days some one stole some from me LOL

On Sunday night I spent 5 hrs of playing on block 3 of The Secret Garden, I’m staying with the theme I did 1 and 2 in using chintz fabrics for my flowers and doing some thing like broderie perse. My vase is some very very heavy silk fabric from a wedding kimono. My grandmother had a vase just like this; it just glowed like silk too and was egg white so I have chosen white like my grandmothers vase using the heavy silk. Vase and cat are ironed down but nothing else, hope the wind does not blow LOL I’ve enjoyed working on this block so far it is completey different from 1 and 2 but still a challenge. Hope every one else is having fun too.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Block 3 of The Secret Garden BOM 2017 by Esther Aliu Thank you Esther for such a lovely design to play with.

Some times we are not completely happy with a block and we start altering it ?????

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

BUT it looks worse than before so its back to leaving it how it was before I  added these appliqué flowers they are far to heavy with the broderie perse flowers.

Finished the large centre flower Sat night now I have completely appliquéd the left 1/2 of the block. Have the flowers and bow on the right side to do now.

No progress here LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Stopped machine appliquéing these circles down as the thread kept breaking, I thought it was the machine Hubby had just fixed but finally I checked the bobbin thread and it was rotten!!!!!!  Now thinking about adding some wadding behind some of the circles to give a 3D effect, so pondering this one at present.

On Saturday I was given these 2 sewing machines and a over locker

Managed to get the old machine I was given for the shop going after 5 hours of cleaning and oiling, hubby spent 3 nights working on the later model it is no longer seized but not working  100% yet, I will use it for a month and see if it keeps running then sell it in the local Opp shop i work in.

Ufosin2017 End of March

I’ve been in bed but on the mend but did not blog on Wednesday so I’m adding my end of the month blog I made to link with Meredithe and share what I’ve been doing on my 17 UFO’s I want to work on this year.  Happy stitching every one Glenda

Thank you Meredithe for this strong motivation to work on my Ufosin2017.

I’m make progress but much slower this month. Its been a frustrating month of not been able to find pieces I needed to work on  the projects I choose for my next 21 days.  I finally after looking for weeks for my cut out circles for my ANZ quilt top I remade another 30 odd new ones and now that project is were I wanted to be before my 21 days were up, I just scrapped in on that one LOL

Ive just completed the last 3 rows and joined them to the main part of the quilt, just need to add the two side red strips and the top is finished then I have the fun of adding appliqué to it.

This fabric was heavily embossed with silver thread so I have a high contrast from the front of fabric to the back fabric.  It is from a old kimono and is woven design with wool and silver threads.   not stamped.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

All circles ironed down waiting for them to be appliquéd on, I started appliquéing them but had terrible trouble with thread breakage, I thought it was the machine so stopped then realised it was rotten cotton thread not the machine. ??????  Best thing about this problem I now realise I should have added wadding behind these circles  to give me a more 3 D effect.

From two

From two

I did start sashiko quilting this finished quilt top from last month but it is now in the quilting pile all so LOL

I finished Joshua’s quilt and it is on its way to him for his belated 21st present by 5 months LOL

Ive also been working on adding the binding to Joshua's quilt, I have 3/4 of the binding sewn on and 1/4 of it turned over and hand stitched down.

Ive also been working on adding the binding to Joshua’s quilt,, which is now completed and the quilt is off to its new owner.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I so enjoyed doing this quilt by hand saskiko quilting.  My DDIL Is going back to Japan this month and is bringing me back sashiko needles so I’m over the moon, funny how a needle gift thrills me more now  than jewellery LOL.  I worked on this  all day one day for 12 hrs and the next day my lower arm was so sore LOL  So I have learnt to only do several hrs a day hand quilting now LOL

Joshua’s quilt made from Japanese mens old cotton fabrics. Is now completed. 2 finishes this year YAY!!!!!

Esther Aliu’s scrappy hexagons lots of fun March 15th 2017

This is what I woke to at 5am this morning

This is were Im up to this morning,  15th March, 1/2 my leaves are appliquéd on by machine and I hope to finish those today, after I have finished those I can finish appliquéing the rest of the fine stems,  Blue bells, last two big leaves, big flowers and birds????? About a week or two LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I started appliquéing the blue bells and tiny stems with embroidery thread in the right hand corner and have worked my way to wards the first stems, had to add my 1st large leaf as a blue bell hung over top of it.  Using 6 strands of floss and doing double back stitch for my stems. Going to  add paler blue bells in the centre of the picture to give more light there, I ironed on those fused leaves this (Tuesday 14th Mar) morning  may be I will get them machine  appliqué to day these leaves need to be appliquéd  before adding those pale blue bells so my machine foot can manoeuvre easily.  My bird is just a thought at this stage LOL

Late This Avo Ive been amking tiny wee birs for the bloc

On Saturday I was given these 2 sewing machines and and a over locker. I spent 4 hrs on the old machine in the fore ground and she is now sewing beautifully.  Its around 1950 model assembled  in Australia from Japanese parts. Hubby managed to get the electronic one to sew but it keeps sewing backwards though LOL

The Secret Garden designed by Esther Aliu 8th March 2017

I all most did not get time to blog today, now 7.30pm in OZ my Wednesday is almost over.

Ive spent most of this week working on Esther’s Secret Garden block 2.

I started by making templates out of washaway freezer paper my

I started by making templates out of washaway freezer paper for my small bluebells. I ironed 3 pieces of freezer paper together then drew the shape of the bluebell on to another piece and ironed this on top of the 3 pieces ironed all  together cut out the shape and then had a good solid shape to pencil around 53 times to make those Bluebells LOL  !!!!

Making my vase

Making my vase, pink is paler than it looks and is fine  silk.  First I cut out the shape in wash away freezer paper then cut out the inside of the shape leaving only 1/2 inch wide shape which I ironed on to the back of the fabric I choose for my vase. this was so my vase would not be to stiff.  there is a lot of appliquéing of  stems and leaves that has to go on to the back part of the vase.  I cut out th epink shape in washaway freezer paper then ironed it on to the back of the silk to stop it distorting as its so fine.  This also gave the pink more depth so it did not disappear in to the silver and gold vase fabric. To hold the fine pink silk in place I spot glued it then pinned every 1 1/2inchs with very fine pins.

Hard to decide how to satin stitch which area first this was scary to me as I was going to machine satin stitch so not easy to undo????

Then just kept going LOL  I did satin stitched around the whole of the out side first then the inside part, it was very slow going in all it took me 4 hrs to make my vase and appliqué it on to the back fabric.  I added a light weight fusing facing behind the whole shape before starting the satin stitch.

22nd Feb 2017 The Secret Garden’s Basket 3 D look

Ive been so busy the last week trying to be a grandmother, mother, working, babysitting and QUILTING  in the evenings the week went by in a flash.

What I woke up to 3 mornings ago. I never need a holiday away from here. Im on a constant holiday.

What I woke up to 3 mornings ago. I never need a holiday away from here. Im on a constant holiday.

Most of my quilting and sewing has been on The Secret Garden by Esther Alui it such a beautiful pattern, I’v so enjoyed seeing all the different creations other quilter are making of the same design over on Esther’s BOM group.

Where i'm up to today. Some flowers hand appliqué and some leaves machine appliquéd down.

Thursday morning my time earl morning the sun is filtering through the windows.  It took me 1 1/2 hrs yesterday to button hole around this Bow LOL My machine is old and I had to stop every few stitches lift my foot and  turn the fabric ever so slightly so it would keep a smooth edge. My thread kept breaking due to the build up of glue on the needle from the iron on fusing at the back of the bow which is holding the batting in place to give me a padded look. 1?2 way through my machine told me it needed cleaning, a new needle and oiling LOL  SO I did and what a difference in the stitching then. Most of my leaves are appliquéd down now.

Where it all started 2 weeks ago.

Where it all started 2 weeks ago.  I like to use coloured paper for my print offs I can see the pattern as a picture this way not lines on white paper.  Its just the way I see things.

Where it all started.

Many other quilters commented on the orange paper back ground thinking that was my fabric so I decided to try it on a lovely piece of orange fabric but I was not happy with it.

Placing my flowers to get the balance I want in my flower arrangement.

How I built my basket for The Secret Garden.

I made satin bias strips then ironed on fusing strips behind them, this made it easy to weave as I ironed the tips on to the top of the basket shape and then wove the strips till i was sure they were all woven properly.

Backing here is a pale blue silk see how it changes the colour of the strips?

Ive used a lightly sliver and gold shimmery backing, looks a bit like dragons scales LOL In the past i used it to make a Dragon for my Son.

I cut out the surrounding of the basket in one piece. first I ironed on some iron on fussing to the fabric I used then cut the shape out, I carefully ironed it to the vase shape. I did cut my vase shape slightly smaller so that it was a perfect fit and cover? and when I sew it to the background fabric finally it will roll over around that edge as there is the out side 1/8th of the frame has fusing and nothing else behind it. So if Im lucky it will look 3 D!

This week I have been working on My memory quilt to women in War.

My 3rd Project for 17Ufosin2017 I call this a memory to all war mothers. Because the purple kimono fabric is from WW11 and was patched and patched my be 100 times as the mother could not afford a new one. Times are always difficult for women and children every were when their countries are at war.

A memory To  Women in War

I had it ready to sandwich but it was TOO big for my two tables pushed together I did not realise it was so big, so I need table number 3 but it had 21 blocks waiting to be sewn for my ANZ quilt, they have been sitting on that table for over   8 months!!!!!  They are now sewn together as I need the table LOL  I have not made any progress sandwiching my Memory quilt as the table is still down stairs but I did finish my ANZ quilt top.

backing was not big enough so have had to add some fabric from another cotton kimono but it blends in OK

To get another table to make a work space big enough to sandwiching My memory quilt I had to clear this table???? so this week I was working on completing my ANZ quilt. Its called that as family when travelling to NZ and around OZ over the last few years have brought me home lovely NZ and OZ designer pieces of fabric and Ive just used those in this quilt top.

Ive just completed the last 3 rows and joined them to the main part of the quilt, just need to add the two side red strips and the top is finished then I have the fun of adding appliqué to it.

Ive just completed the last 3 rows and joined them to the main part of the quilt, just need to add the two side red strips and the top is finished then I have the fun of adding appliqué to it.

While looking for the circles Id made to be applqiued on to the ANZ quilt I found two strips  of Bargello, one around11 inchs wide and one 17inchs wide roughly as they were very squwif, lopside!!!!!! I wanted to amke a quilt for our bed 35 odd years ago and loved the look of the Bargello quilts and so I was going to make one after all it was just sewing straight seams wasn’t it? This was my first attempt at machine pieced work how  I wanted to make that quilt for our bed What was I thinking? I could not have chosen a more difficult design to make for a beginner. I was in tears when I saw what I ended up with LOL I did not know about bobbin tension or top tension in those days just how to sew a straight line after all how difficult could it be they are all just straight lines Well it was a great lesson in tension.

Those two strips of Bargello look at the end of the pieces and see how distorted they are? you can not see it in this clearly but the centres bow to the right LOL

Those two strips of Bargello look at the end of the pieces and see how distorted they are? you can not see it in this clearly but the centres bow to the right LOL all the last row on the left of the big strip are almost diamond shape they are meant to be square thats how distorted it became.

You can really see the distortion of the fabric pieces here.

You can really see the distortion of the fabric pieces here.

These two pieces have been travelling around with us for the last 30 years tormenting me LOL Today I attacked them and sliced the bottoms and tops to make them straight and cut the sides so they now don’t bow LOL May be it will become a quilt after all. I like them on the black background?

After cutting and slashing those two pieces of Bargello today I have something that might make a single bed quilt, thinking of sashiko quilting the black in off white thread for a strong contrast. I can not wait to try the sashiko quilting on that black space now.

WOW or WIP’s with Esther 8th Feb 2017

Not much to show in the patchwork side this week, Ive mostly been quilting not doing patchwork.  A great deal of the time this week was unpicking two kimonos one for the backing of my Memory to all Women in War, and the other for the backing for my QAYG Hanky blocks.

Unpicked Kimono patched and patched to make a square backing for my memorial quilt to all women in war.

This box was so full I could hardly carry it, I’ve  ended up with 3 boxes one with silk scraps one with cotton scraps and 1 with lengths of fabric which were also in the box. So Im a very very happy chappy as Im making several appliqué quilts this year.

I was given a beautiful Japanese Doll 40 years ago as a thank you gift, sadly over the last 18 months a stain was coming from inside the porcelain,

I was given a beautiful Japanese Doll 40 years ago as a thank you gift, sadly over the last 18 months a dark stain I thought was coming from inside the porcelain, I have been to scared to do any thing about trying to remove it.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Yesterday I decide I had to do some thing as it was spreading right across her face, so decided to try bleaching the mark out!!!!! so took some cotton buds and added a little concentrated chlorine to the tip of the bud and dabbed like you would removing mould from a old painting, much to my surprise after about 30 mins of carefully dabbing and 30 cotton buds later she was back to normal, Im so happy to have her back again looking so beautiful.

My beautiful beautiful Doll. Given to me many years ago. She is still one of my most loved dolls.

My beautiful beautiful Doll. Given to me many years ago. She is still one of my most loved dolls.

My beautiful Dolls clothes after 40 years have faded and soiled around her neck, they are silk so there is no way I'd try to clean them on her, Ive decided to try appliquéing over top of the neck pieces with very fine silks. Hopefully Ill do it this week now her face is back to been its beautiful self.

My first project of my 17 ufosin2017 21 days was up on the 21st of Jan

After 21 days I had finished making the quilt top, sandwiched it and almost completed quilting it. All the machine quilting in the ditch was finished and about 75% of the sashiko quilting done. So Im happy.

and I started my 2nd project The Teddy Bears Picnic and finished it on the 29th Jan

Hanging on the line after washing on a wool cycle yesterday 29th Jan 2017 before it was posted later in the day. It has a wool batting so will be lovely and warm.

Added the borders, sandwiched it, machine quilted in the ditch around all the borders and sashiko quilted around the teddy Bears. Hanging on the line after washing on a wool cycle yesterday 29th Jan 2017 before it was posted later in the day. It has a wool batting so will very light but lovely and warm.

I started making Diamond Hill by Esther Aliu Its a lovely big bold design and it fun working on big pieces of appliqué instead of tiny pieces like I have been.

My Ufosin2017 challenge Feb 2017

Its very very hot and humid up here in the far north of OZ.  around 30C and 98% humidity!!!! To wet to work in the garden and hot. Mossies have arrived in full force so time to stay indoors and sit in front of a fan and enjoy quilting.

I dont have time to rewrite a new blog today so using one I wrote yesterday for my Yfosin2107 with Meredithe it’s such a long blog most of you will stop before the end LOL

Today Im baby sitting my DGD 4 who asked me to teach her to do cross stitch!!!! not sure where that came from but here she is I still can not believe she picked it up so quickly and never made one mistake the whole time she worked on it.  I taught her on paper in big dots first so she understood and she was  a way with needle and thread LOL

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Concentration at its best LOL

So much happening this month in my sewing world.  I joined Meredithe’s Ufosin2017  My first challenge is finished now on to number 2. we have 21 days to work on each project through the year of the 17 UFO’s we choose,  Im really enjoying this as I work best under pressure and a time-date.  SO for me its working and Im enjoying it. My first project I finished making Sara’s quilt top sandwiched it completed all the machine quilting in the ditch and 3/4 finished the sashiko quilting so Im very pleased.  It won’t take me long to finish this UFO now.  If I finish my 2nd UFO before the 21 days I will then pick up my 1st project and work on that.

My first project for the challenge was a single bed size quilt Ive called Sara’s quilt

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

To compete Sara’s quilt I had to add the jumping sheep and the final border around it.

After 17 days I ahve almost completed Sara's quilt. only the top, sides and bottom to sahiko quilt and the machine quilting in the ditch is completed, Im feeling good about this one.

Ive just completed the last 3 rows and joined them to the main part of the quilt, just need to add the two side red strips and the top is finished then I have the fun of adding appliqué to it. Still have not found my appliqué circles so it is sitting still.

My 3rd Ufoi217 was going to be my ANZ quilt but i could not find the circles to put on top of the finished pieced quilt so I pulled out my Women in War memorial quilt and started to make that, that also had a hold up as I had to wait 10 days  to have a table brought up from down stairs to the veranda to add to two other tables to give me a space big enough to sandwich this large quilt!!!!!!

3rd Ufoi2017  This is my Women and war memorial quilt.  If possible I want to sandwich it  within my 21 days of working on it.  Ive been unpicking this lovely cotton kimono for the backing.  Ive had to patch and patch to make it a square big enough for the quilt top.

Unpicked Kimono patched and patched to make a square backing for my memorial quilt to all women in war.

My 3rd Project for 17Ufosin2017 I call this a memory to all war mothers. Because the purple kimono fabric is from WW11 and was patched and patched my be 100 times as the mother could not afford a new one. Times are always difficult for women and children every were when their countries are at war.

I had to wait till there were two able men around to bring up table 3 so I could sandwich my quilt even 3 tables were not big enough so Im going to baste as far in around as I can reach ever 4inches and then remove the tape and work each the left and right hand side  of the quilt that is over lapping .   Here it is all ready to start the basting 25th Feb 2017

Finally all that is lying flat on the table is basted as far in as possible, after 3days working on it. Have removed the masking tape and wrapped the tape around a noodle to reuse.

I ahve moved the tape to the right on the table so I can now baste the left hand side of the quilt that was hanging down the side, have taped the backing down with the old tape Id wrapped around the noodle.

side section is now all ready to be basted on. I will have to do the same with the other side after this is basted then I will finish of the centre were I was unable to reach.  Lets hope its worked doing it like this?????

Ive completed basting the left hand side and now have turned the quilt around completely so

I’ve completed basting the left hand side and now have turned the quilt around completely so I can baste the other side now.  Quilt is lying lovely a flat it worked doing it this way.  SO in future I can do others this way.  Ive folded the quilt back on its self on the right hand side to give weight so I can pull the left hand side firm and tape before basting it.

While waiting for the 3rd table I made the below?????

Those two strips of Bargello look at the end of the pieces and see how distorted they are? you can not see it in this clearly but the centres bow to the right LOL

While looking for my circles for my ANZ quilt I found these two pieces of Bargello that I made 30 odd years ago, my first attempt at piece quilting, talk about jumping in to the deep end of quilting LOL  Those two strips of Bargello look at the end of the pieces and see how distorted they are? you can not see it in this clearly but the centres bow to the right LOL  To day I came up with an idea of what to do with them after 30 years  LOL

After cutting and slashing those two pieces of Bargello today I have something that might make a single bed quilt, thinking of sashiko quilting the black in off white thread for a strong contrast. I can not wait to try the sashiko quilting on that black space now.
