This week went by so quickly and I have been obsessed with the new block that was release of the Secret Garden part 6 of Esther’s It is such a lovely lovely wee block I just love every thing about it, it has been a challenge but I have learnt so much from making it, one down and 3 more to go. I’ve had no time to do any thing else LOL
Finally a sunny morning to wake up too!!!!!!
Part 6 of The Secret Garden and how I made my block.
First I cut my Clam shell shapes and made up one 1/4 of the pattern to see if my colours were OK
stage 2 was adding more pieces. Yes I’m happy with it!!!!
I need to amke up 4 of these blocks for stage 6 of The Secret Garden pattern.
Needle basted all the clamshell pieces and one rose bud.
this is my clamshell pieces laid on the pattern for placement.
two rose buds its getting there basted ready for appliquéing down.
Deciding on my background fabric????
These wee 8 1/2″ blocks have to work with my 24 4 1/2″ tiny wee blocks??????\
I cut out the flower shape from my pattern and laid it on my background fabric and worked over that.
Close up of the petals appliquéd to the clam shell.
4 completed clamshells been appliquéd to the background fabric.
close up of rosbuds from the abck so you can see where I cut away the pink so I would not have so much bulk when I wrapped the green leaves at the bottom of the rosebud.
Back of rosebuds when needle basted.
Ready for appliquéing to the back ground.
So far so good???

We have had this tiny waterlilly for around 5 years now and it throws me a new flower every day it is a wee blessing in the garden.
My herb garden is thriving though!!!!
skimpy looking Poinciana’s Yellow one is doing better than my red!!!!
Indi’s cutting s are growing well to.
Lovely bougainvillaea.
I’m going to show several canopy photo’s of the rain-tree’s beside our house to give you a little idea of the trees around us. Most are as tall as a 6 story building!!!!!

Thank you so much for staying till you reached the bottom of todays blog not so interesting for any one not making The Secret Garden like I am LOL but I’m throughly enjoying these wee blocks. Cheers Glenda
Wow! I love those trees. They have a very calm feel and it must provide amazing shade on hot days. Your SG is progressing well. The water lily…you are lucky to have it all year round.
Hi Maggie, they are very very beautiful, we’ve had them lopped once but they need it again to be safe in a cyclone as they are far far to high. They sure give us a lot of shade and make it a lovely cool oasis in the summer time. Yes that water Lilly does not usually flower all year round but it never gets cold enough here for it to stop. I do need longer days though to get the things done I want to each day LOL Hugs Glenda
Very pretty!
Thank you Pamela, it’s a lovely part of the world we live in and we have lots of Japanese visitors to stay and they find it hard to leave. Cheers Glenda
Lovely tute Glenda, thank you, you have a lot more patience than l do. Fantastic garden, those trees must give you some welcome shade in the summer. Love lndi’s little garden, she is learning such a lot from you
Great pics for anyone needle basting their little blocks Glenda and it’such a gorgeous little block isn’t it. Think I’ve got a little of your background fabric such a pretty colour and with the little sparkle your blocks will just glow. Your herbs are looking really good and love seeing your canopy trees, you really are nestled in the rainforest. Hugs Jenny
I would not have thought to use clamshells as a base for a flower – thanks so much for showing that and your tutorial is really great! Your herb garden box is so pretty I really like that. All your flowers – I wish they were mine!!
You do live in a secret garden. That block is not for a novice appliquér. You mastered it with skill and patience.
