WOW or WIP’s with Esther. 11th July 2018

 It’s

It’s a beautiful morning and I have been out here since dawn when it was 17c now at 8.30am it is 23C.  Update 3.30pm and it is 29C!

Writing for Esther’s WOWor WIPs this  week. I have been working on my two UFO’s I brought down with me to work on, both have taken huge steps forward?  Plus my Secret Garden .

I’m away from home at present so it’s not so easy to make a blog on what I’m doing on the iPad, its so so slow!!! But here we go????  My week has been spent going up and down to my home as hubbys car radiator needs to be replaced so he’s needed to borrow my car.  It’s so so cold up on the range this week yesterday at work it was 10C which is very very cold for us here in the tropics!!!!!  I’m sitting out on the veranda down in the city this morning at my sons home baby sitting this is my view as I sit and sew out here.

Border

Border of Secret Garden

This is

This is where I was last week with my scrappy UFO first two rows on the left joined in to strips. And I’m unpicking 8 blocks which had the fabric back to front?

Back of fabric

Back of fabric is as lovely as the front it is a woven pattern not a print so may be I was trying to use the back too as a contrast???  But it did NOT work LOL.  Now I can see why with the blocks all coming together and can see the pattern clearly.

Hbvv

Slowly she grows !!

Knn

I have so enjoyed making up these wee 6 1/2 inch blocks all due to my Bernina p1/4 inch foot with the guide attached I’m able to sew a straight seam!!!

Jhh

As it is this morning I’m working on the right hand end row the missing blocks are been joined at my sewing machine.

My

My scrappy blocks waiting for me to finish writing my blog LOL.

Up

Up date 4pm Today Wednesday finally finished the last two panels.  Not sorry to see them completed I was all most machined out sewing them all.

My

My 1930’s Glorified 9patch blocks have all been unpicked bar 3 blocks, some are waiting to be pressed for recutting some are ready for resewing, May be tomorrow I will start sewing them back together.  I managed to pick up 3 pieces of fabric at our local sale at 40% off  to cut out melons to join these blocks.  I wanted to use fabric from my stash but my lights are very limited.

Kjj

Piles of different stages of my 1930’s Glorified 9patch blocks . From the right hand side last 3 blocks to be unpicked, next 8 blocks ready to be pressed to recut??? Ones upside down sewn back together but waiting to be pressed, pile on the left finished waiting for the mellons to be added and blocks joined in rows. Back row left start of blocks that have melons added right of them melons cut  then some left over pieces plus one block that is 1inch cut too small he will not make it to the front of this quilt top, may be will be a label at the back?

By Friday night I had done Soooo much cutting my blade was chewing the fabric instead of slicing it, plus I’d used the last of my top thread, so first thing Sat morning I popped up to Spot light for a new blade and some thread till I get back home in 10 days time!!!

Jjh

I went shopping just for a new blade!!!  But they had 40% of all fabric shop wide???  I did want some new fabrics but at $27.00 a metre here in OZ you think twice before spending well I do.  I came home with a empty purse LOL.  Black I bought  5 metres of as I’m all ways running out of black?  The other 5 metres I will use constantly.  Fat 1/4s I’m using now and right in the middle is the cutting blade and thread I went forLOL.

Hhhh

These I bought to finish making my little scrappy quilt blocks and they are now all cut up and little churndash blocks.

Uhhhb

these I bought because they were $75% off and with some beautiful fabrics that Nancy gifted me will make a beautiful appliqué quilt.  At $90.00 a box they would not have come home with me but 75% off who could not buy them LOL.

This week sharing some of the local birds down in the city by the ocean as my son does not have a very big garden to share photos of? below these tiny wee birds came in to the back yard a couple of days ago, first time Ive seen then and they have not been back????

,kkkjjj

They look like wee mice????

kjjjjj

Then these fellows flew in as a wee flock to the same day??? black birds are called Drongos and the one pal yellow one at the bottom is a Figtree bird.

This fellow comes in each day and he is so funny to watch? Sulphur crested cockatoo.

at so much off for the fabric I would have bought them too!! I like all your old fashioned blocks – so nice!!

    • glenda says:

Hi Karen, I should be joining the last panel of my scrappy blocks there are only 7 to do but I’m procrastinating over doing them. Have just ironed down my last petal shapes for my last border of QG. I really want to get it machine appliqued before my retreat is over LOL. If I’d only do those last 7 scrappy blocks I’d have 2 finishes that I planned to do? May be I’m machined out if there is such a thing, I have worn one cutting blade out since I’ve been here LOL. Cheers Glenda.

    Hi Glenda,
What a gorgeous view, and being able to sew outside on the porch looks wonderful. I like it cool and am looking very much forward to our very hot weather being over. Although that is months away! I’m not sure if my response to your nice message went through so I thought I’d pop over and say thank you for your visit and comment. I think you did a great job on this post even if it was slow and on an iPad. You have plenty of photos to enjoy! Happy Wednesday! ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Roseanne and thanks for dropping over, I can still see your lovely green and white quilt you both made. It’s early morning here a little fresh for us at around 17C. But will be up around 27C by 11am. I will be recutting the last 4 Glorified 9 Patches and then sewing those last 9 blocks back together. I’m very surprised at how strong the fabrics are, some are feed sacks, one has been cut out on the seam line so no waste of material back then, 6 of the pieces have been joined to make the piece big enough, and I think at least 3 people worked on these blocks by the different hand sewing it’s been a interesting journey so far remaking these wee blocks. Cheers Glenda.

  3. Audrey Easter says:

Some really lovely projects! It’s always so fun to come see what you’re up to next.:)

    • glenda says:

LOL. I never know my self what I will be up to next Audrey regarding my sewing or life LOL. Hepburn motto to me is Be prepared for any change quickly LOL . I have woken to a lovely morning it’s still early enough to hear the birds calling out there morning songs. A hot coffee is calling me out of bed but I will need a thick Wooie on this morning for a few hours at least, it’s Perfect sewing weather. Cheers Glenda

  4. Kyle says:

You maybe away from home but you’re not away from your seeing. The churn dashes are super cute and are coming together. But I really love your Glorified Nine patch. It’s a pattern would be difficult to tackle. You’re putting it back together perfectly.

    • glenda says:

Hi Kyle finally finished the last panel of my churndash blocks yesterday afternoon and they are rolled up now till I get back h9me and I can work on joining the panels into a quilt top using my big work tables. I only have 5 days left at my so called sewing retreat LOL. So hopefully I will make some good headway into making up the 1930s Glorified 9patches in to panels and get my last QG border machine appliqued. It’s been wonderful and a luxury to sew day and night if I want to. Cross your fingers for me those patches go back and lye flat after all that unpicking and recutting, I have all ways loved the 1930 prints so it’s fun playing with them ! Thanks for dropping in KyleCheers Glenda

  5. You always have so many beautiful projects to share but being in the USA and a different climate I also love seeing your garden, wildlife, birds etc! 🙂

    • glenda says:

Hi Deb, our gardens are very different but your looks so much like what mine was in NZ when we lived there many years ago. I had one huge bed of Roses about 100 of them and they took so much of my time constantly feeding them the the pruning each year!!! But the perfume and blooms made it all worth while, now I live in a climate we’re its far to hot to grow them so I make applique ones in fabric instead LOL Cheers Glenda.

  6. Deana says:

Love love love the churn dashes! I also really loved seeing that you are quilting out on the veranda. I could never do that at home because the wind blows enough that I would have pieces everywhere. It looks like a fabulous idea though.

Hope you enjoyed the little ones.

    • glenda says:

I had the same problem with pieces flying around Deana, I’ve blocked the bottom 1/2 of the far end of veranda. Where the breeze comes from, but I do most of my placing and pinning inside, dreaming sewing and cutting out side LOL. Thoroughly enjoyed my churndash blocks but was burnt out by th e last two rows, I kept procrastinating but finally made them LOL. Now working on the 1930 blocks, much slower going but bigger blocks so will grow quicker. Cheers Glenda.

  7. Marita says:

    Hello Glenda,
beautiful pictures! The birds, even a cockatoo. I am amazed!
    Your new fabrics are gorgeous!
    Marita

    • glenda says:

Morning Marita, sitting out side it’s around 23C lovely and a perfect day. Was 17C this morn8ng that’s far to cold for me LOL. Will go up to around 30C plus by midday. Only 4 more days here then back up in the cold? Well cold for me. Plus lots more house work it’s never ending living in the rainforest. Will be to cold to sit out side and sew also? Cheers from Down Under.
