Hello from a tiny piece of Australia in the far north where it is paradise this time of the year.
Early this morning the dawn was so lovely I sat out side in the cold and watched it break
Quilting wise I have very little to show as I have been in the garden more than, sleeping or sewing?
In the sewing department I’ve been lucky to have another table added to the two I’ve had for some time, these 3 together will take a queen size quilt no problem to sandwich, I’m very happy.
I thought I’d completed appliqueing Down two borders and was going to add them to the top but I still have 1/2 the gold leaves to do on one row!!! Good thing in the end as I’ve decided to add a 1/4 inch yellow flange between the blocks and the leaf border, see left bottom hand corner ? Makes a huge difference.
I’m getting closer to 1/2 way with appliqueing my leaves down !
Update 10pm
Cut out the yellow flange this avo and have added it to 3 sides what a difference it makes, it’s amazing how such a small strip of colour can change the whole?
This morning I’ve been playing with 2inch squares of fabric instead of what I was going to do?
Florence Petro’s Calico Garden quilt top design, I made it up years ago but in bright 9 patches, I’ve all ways wanted to remake it using scrappy 2inch blocks and this morning I’ve been playing with 2inch squares???
Colours I’m looking at using?
Some of the wee blocks I’ve made of Florence’s wee design blocks
Now that I do so much applique on the machine I do miss the quiet relaxing time of hand applique. So have decided to keep the last few hrs before I go to bed just to do hand work in. I sat and appliqued a bunch of grapes on last night it was so much more relaxing and peaceful.
I will have to show lots of the garden to make up for the lack of sewing this week?
I’ve had this waterlilly for around 10 years now and she throws me one flower every day 365 days of the year!
Love my ball water feature she just keeps on gurgling 24 24?
Just repotted Jon’s Mother’s Day plant and she has doubled in size?
Hopefully this is the last fall of leaves
Rod cleaned the driveway yesterday? Hopefully this is the last of the falls of leaves for a few months
Hubby brought home a bunch of Lillie’s for me on Monday I was spoilt.
First Lilly trying to come out, think it is to cold inside so have put them on the side veranda . Notice the tiny wee moth nestled there, it’s about 1/2 an inch long and Snow White with a red head?
This glorious Brom has looked like this for around 7 years now.
A peaceful spot
Quiet retreat spot
Still to cold to swim but a lovely spot to sit beside and read.
off to link with Esther on her WOW or WIP’s now. Thank you so much for dropping in. Cheers Glenda
Dear Glenda,
your leaves border is so pretty! The yellow flansh is right! Ist is more beautiful. He connects. Wenn i look your garden pictures i feel like on holiday. It looks so peaceful.
Many greetings, Marita
Evening Marita, funny to think you are just waking up while Im going to bed? Was very happy with that yellow flange it’s like there is a light shinning from behind the quilt top letting the light in. Funny how one small piece of fabric can alter the whole look. Now to get on and finish those leaves they are not hard to do they are quiet easy but just very slow and time consuming. This time of the year the garden looks like a park and is so lovely to be in working or just sitting and watching the dawn break. Cheers Glenda PS cut out some 2inch blocks of fabric this avo and played placing 9patches for Calico Garden!!!!!
Dear Glenda
Love nine patches, they are so simple, yet one can have so much fun with them. Your garden is looking beautiful. You are hoo cold, we are too hot to go outside. 41C . We now get thunderstorms everyday with rain. Don’t mind the heat, it is the humidity that is the culprit. All your water features is so soothing when it gets all hot. Your water Lily is one happy Lilly!
Dear Maggie, was thinking about you for the last two days and thinking I must check to see if you were OK and here you are! So lovely to know you are OK. If rather hot. Yes the humidity is the killer, that’s what we get when the rainy monsoon wet season starts. Now it is perfect not to hot and not to cold as Goldilocks said LOL. Any thing over 32C is to hot to be comfortable to work in. I’m enjoying playing with my scrappy 9patches hope it ends up looking how I want it to look! I’ll enjoy making the tiny applique blocks in the evenings. Sending some fresh air from down here your way. Hugs Glenda
so nice that you can have an area to fit three tables to hold queen size quilts to work on – that is wonderful. You have such lovely gardens and you must love the weather when it is not real humid I’m sure the humidity is horrible when it is day after day for weeks at a time.
Love the quilts you are working on.
Hi Karen, its wonderful to have that extra table but I don’t keep it up all the time as I can not reach the middle or the back with 3 tables up LOL, But boy its going to be great for sandwiching quilts. Sewing has been neglected the last 3 weeks and I do miss it. To day I buried my self in my sewing area and played on and off All day it was wonderful. Hoping to do some machine sewing this evening sewing small nine patches well not so small 5 inch ones. Love the quilts you are working on at present such beautiful colours. Cheers Glenda
Your applique leaves and the green leaves of the garden are lovely. A perfect combo.
Hi Kyle I do enjoy you dropping in to say Hi, it’s nice to know some one out there some where is reading what I sit and write up each weekLOL. I often wonder why do you not leave your blog address as well as your email address? To day has been spent cutting out the border pieces for My Calico Garden, But first I had to soak the Calico and the iron it dry, it’s a slow but not painful process LOL. But I now think I have most of it cut out waiting till I get to the stage of sewing it all back together. My dad never got the patchwork thing LOL. Why take pieces of whole fabric cut it up then sew it all back together but end up with less yardage??? lOL. Cheers Glenda.
