A couple of more days and it will be June 1/2 way through 2013!!!!!! we had a lovely morning down at the beach, it was cloudy and windy but warm. water temp was around 25C perfect.
We had a lovely breakfast, it is a very old wee restaurant run by a family who treat their regulars like family. It’s a little sad as the owners of the building has sold it to a commercial builder who is going to pull the old building down and make it in to a large commercial building and a upmarket restaurant will be open there by the end of the year. No more bacon and eggs on the side walk!!!!!! So we have to make each visit special.
During the week I drafted a pattern for a x and – block after seeing Julie’s on her blog www.myquiltdiary.blogspot.com hers is a real stunner and I just had to make a block if not a quilt!!!!!!! Julie lives in Japan and has just been up to teach some of the Tsunami women survives how to quilt you can read about it on her blog. I’m sending you some fabric and scissors Julie for your next visit up there. One of Julie’s quilts “To every thing there is a season” is in the quilt show competition this week it sure is a tough choice this week I’m glad I could vote on 4 quilts.
I like to work out how to make blocks I do this instead of doing crossword puzzles!!!!!! If I carry on making these wee blocks I will use the plain calico as sashings and red and navy blue cornerstones through out the quilt. I bought these funky trouser
at the Opp Shop yesterday $2.00 a pair lots of cotton fabric there LOL, a shop in the village closed down and these ended up in our shop, I will use them if I make any more x and- blocks!!!!!! I buy a lot of my fabric this way it saves me going down in to the city to shop!!!!!!
I have been finding time to sew some of my pockets ( I have been using my wee Singer222k
to sew the first part of these pockets it was so long since I have used this wee machine I’d forgotten how to thread it, thank goodness for the internet as there were tutorials by quilters how to do this LOL) to make more blocks of my quilt as you go cathedral windows,
for those of you who have not seen my older blogs the pockets are made from kimono wool fabrics and the window fabric silks from kimono fabric. I’m very addictive to making quilt as you go blocks and have made many quilts over the years like this.
I need to deliver my Bra for Bra’s for Cancer next week, I finally finished it a month ago.
Some of us have been talking about Kaffe Fassett lately, I did a pictorial knitting course with him in NZ over 3 days about 30 plus years ago!!!!! and while we were busy following his lesson he would work on a large table cloth tapestry using our threads we had taken to the course many we had spun and dyed. I was fascinated by this as he was just doing the stitches randomly and the shape was weird, but he told us it had started out round and he would wash it and set it back in to a circle to dry!!!! I bel;eived him and did the same with the back of a waist coat!!!! This got me thinking and I would bag the wool scrap yarns that were swept up after each session and I took them home, cut out the shape of the back of a waist coat out of tapestry fabric and started stitching, just picking up any wool or yarn in my left over yarn box, this was to be for my second DS who was doing fine arts at UNI Wowwwwww this was fun but it took for ever to fill that waist coat back LOL. I found this in one of my boxes this week, it is THE back!!!!! it is back to been just a back as the front wore out and I cut it back to the back again and one day will remake it!!!! !!!!!!!!!
This week a treated my self to a new cutting board, and rotary blade-cutter ready for Esther’s new BOM LOL. It looks like we are going to be challenged again this year with Esther’s new BOM so be prepared every one?????? I have to blame some one Esther!!!!!!! I also have a new desk for it to set up in the back room and I’m planing to set up two sewing machines in there with an ironing board, plus hang a large piece of felt for a design wall. I wonder if it really will happen LOL. Well it has been fun dreaming about it any way.
Off to link up with Esther.
Happy stitching all Glenda
What a wonderful Blog entry, lots of news you sure have been busy. I recognize some of the fabrics in you x- block ;). And your cathedral windows is beautiful. Of course the beach is where I would have been all week lol. It will be nice for your son and family to be in their own place but I know you will miss having them around.
