A quilt I made in Papua New Guinea 17 years ago 4th Feb 2015

I have not blogged the last two weeks as I have not been able to find time to do that much in the sewing area let alone blog.  What time I had I spent on the below quilt; I’m adding an extra border to it after 15 years of it been a wall quilt that kept been used to cuddle under!!!!!

I’m using kimono fabric which is only woven at 14” wide you can see it lying on the quilt, I have folded it in 1/2  which makes it 7′ wide now and pinned it ready for sewing by machine.

Border fabric machine sewn on and then I have flipped the quilt over so now you are looking at the back of the quilt.  I have place a double 3′ strip of wool batting and next I will fold the added fabric back over that and pin down.

Border fabric folded back and pinned ready for me to hand stitch down tonight. I have ended up with a 31.2″ border.  I like to have a double thickness in my final borders as most quilts I have rescued from the 1930’s  the very edge of the quilts have frayed on that final border first.

A Corner section of the quilt; right side is machine quilted and finished, after tonight I will machine quilt the left side and I will only have one more side to do. Yaaaaaa!!!!!

I'm happy with the fabric choice

I’m happy with the fabric choice and I think Laure will be to.  I will hand quilt the centre and this will take time but I trust my hands more than I trust a machine when quilting LOL This is the 2nd or 3rd quilt I ever made while living in Papua New Guinea around 1998

I’m back  working on making little tiny pieces of LE. I never tire of working on this beautiful beautiful design of Esther’s.

I'm making my varies for Part 11 in two pieces as this means not so many sharp con-caves and con-curvess and they sit much better.

100s of laure leaves needle basted over wash away freezer paper. Over 2/3 of the way with these lovely wee pieces.

Hi Glenda, I just love visiting your site and always look for you on Wednesdays. I love to see what you are doing with the silk kimonos. I have been working on two wall hangings for my sewing room, they are now ready for batting and backings. I finally realized that if I waited for my sewing room to be perfect, I would never get any sewing done. Keep up the wonderful inspirations. Julie

Hi Julie, thanks so much for dropping a line it is always nice to here from another quilter. My sewing room needs a good clean up but I want time to sew too so that comes first at present LOL. I have so many UFO’s I’m dreaming of finishing some of them each year now????? Cheers Glenda

interesting that you have changed a wall hanging into a snuggly quilt – and all those little pieces for Love Entwined. Now that I am done with one applique I can have LE be my applique focus – always love the greenery you show and the beach!! how wonderful to see when it is winter here

Morning Karen 7am here. I made this quilt when I was a beginner to this wonderful hobby and the backing is a very soft soft cotton, the more it is washed the softer it gets and the top white cotton is the same so the whole quilt has always felt soft and fluffy die to very little quilting; the grandchildren would pull it out of the cupboard when living in Vienna in the winter and curl up under it to watch a DVD. It was not hung there as they had only a unit. I also just quilted around the appliqué pieces and if it is to be used as a full time cuddly quilt it needed a lot more quilting to stop the batting from floating and breaking up. This is one of the reasons I love quilting you never stop leaning LOL. I have woken up to another picture perfect day but no clouds which means a hot hot day to follow. Cheers Glenda

What lovely photos of the beach – it looks so perfect!
Lovely to see your quilts too – a great idea to put a double layer of fabric on your final border. It will be a beautiful quilt to cuddle under!

    • glenda says:

Thanks Plum, not sure how much cuddling under it will get from now on with my Grandchildren as they are 14 and 16 now but may be the next generation will ????? Now that I have quilted it to last it may be around for quiet a few more years. Yes the beach was so so perfect yesterday morning, just a soft gentle breeze and the sea was so calm with waves gently rolling in so it was very quiet and peaceful walking along the edge for an hour. Then to sit for another hour chatting over coffee beside the sea was wonderful. This is such a wonderful part of the world I’m so lucky to be living here. Hugs Glenda

Oh Bunny it is Just as well you don’t live close to me or you would be horrified at all my UFO’s most people talk about how many they have I would have to say how many boxes of UFO’s I have LOL. Glenda
