I usually work from the floor when adding the borders when my quilt is to big for our table, but I find it very very difficult now and can only bend over and add one border a day. I need to snip a little off a border here and added there to make these borders fit?

This was one of the first quilts I made. I was living in PNG and meeting up with other wives  who were stationed up there;  we were all new at quilting and it was trial and error.  From this group 6 of us who were more keen to learn and share meet weekly and set challengers, This challenge was to use a block we had just learnt and make it in to a tropical quilt?????  I choose the dresden plate and ended up with this quilt which ended at the black border.   I have just added the last two borders to make it bigger for cuddling under and now Im adding more quilting as I had only quilted around the outline of the appliqué pieces.  I have all most completed echo quilting two of the dresden plates 3 more to go!!!!!! it is a lot slower than sashiko quilt thats for sure.  LOL

I have not seen this wee fellow in my garden before, he was quiet greeny yellow down his sides and was not scared of me in the slightest,  I need to find a way to hold a torch and take photos , I don’t like using the flash on  the wee creatures .

Nothing much to show in the garden this week

what a lot of creepy crawlies you show us today! such a nice collection of the little (big) bugs.
I love your echo quilting on that last quilt – that will take some time won’t it. And your circles! love them. That was so nice to have the tables set up to work with I bet. I do some work on the floor and usually end of stretching my back out by laying down on top of the quilt when I need to LOL – one day i know I won’t be able to do that either and then I will need my dining room table stretched out to the fullest and of course it won’t be big enough and will need to work in sections. I do love that Japanese quilt and getting so close to the end.

Hi Karen, Esther does not like my creepie crawlies but many of the hubbies enjoy them and I sure do love watching them they are fasanating. As long as they stay out side my home I’m OK with them living in the garden except snakes I prefer them a long way away. lOL

Hi Karen I just wrote a reply to you and ithis disappeared??? So frustrating when that happens. I take all the creepy crawly photos as many of the people who vi visit me here husbands like seeing them LOL All though Esther hates them LOL. I must admit to been fascinated by them nd as long as they stay outside in the grounds I will leave them be, except snakes I prefere them a long long way away. Crocs are O K as long as they are down in the river, but I do know they can climb hills no problem so I do watch out for them ALL the time. Most of our crocs are freshwater so no real threat to us.
Yes echo quilting like this does take time these rows are just under 1/4 inch apart, each circle would take me more than an our but I usually work with 6 or 7 needles at a time so I’m not constantly turning the hoop, I quilt about 8inches then start another row till I have 6 or 7 rows then turn my quilt, some times I will have even more needles it depends how and where I’m quilting. you can see this in the close up photo.
I had a good laugh when you said you stretch on the quilt I could visualise you trying that on your table top too when you finally have to use it LOL. Hugs From Down Under where it is finally turning cooler.

What a fabulous work table – it looks amazing to have all that space! How kind of your DH!
Your Japanese quilt top is looking brilliant!
Well done on finishing your Sashiko on your circles – they look great! have you made plans for the other 3/4 of them? I can’t remember if you’ve told us……
Happy sewing – and thanks for sharing all your brilliant photos!

Dear Plum, yes it is a fantastic work table just sorry I never thought about it earlier, it would of saved a lot of back and neck pain LOL. Have finally finished my quilt top and now need to find the time to buy the wadding and sandwhich the top into a quilt to hand quilt it, I will be able to machine quilt some of it as there are so many straight lines. Then I will do the hand quilting which I love doing. I have 3 quilts sandwiched ready to be quilted but I keep getting side tracked LOL. I have another 90 quilty364 circles sewn together waiting to be sandwhich so I can sashiko quilt it will be a small wall quilt, and another 90 squares with circles waiting to be sewn together for the 3rd wall quilt. Unfortunately I have run out of the lovely grey silk I have been using for. My squares so my last 90 squares will be quiet different. No idea what I will use yet LOL so I have made up enough squares till Sept. Hugs Glenda

I love your tropical quilt. The Quilting is beautiful. Your circle quilt is making my fingers want to stitch, instead we have to dig the new flower bed in our front garden. We have a few cooler days with no humidity, so it is pefect for doing this. LOL, I find it amazing that you are not shy to get close to the creepy crawlies and take pictures of them!

  4. That’s a wonderful work table for your beautiful quilt ! And I love the echo quilting around the Dresdens 🙂
