This wall quilt was designed by Esther Aliu several years ago it was a mystery BOM and all who made it had so much fun and ended up with a stunning Christmas wall hanging my family look forward to seeing it go up each year now.
This may be my last blog before Christmas so Id like to say I hope you are all with family and friend over this time. Foe those of you who will not be I hope the day is full of messages from family and friends. All the very very best wishes for 2017.
Its very cloudy out side at present so dark inside have taken a couple of close ups for those who want to have a good look LOL those 12 days before Christmas appliqués are free standing so can be removed if one ever wanted to wash the quilt.
I added more Christmas parcels to the bottom of my tree and added large candles at the sides so my wall hanging is much bigger than the original design.
Only sewing I have done this week has been a little hand quilting and many hrs appliqué on my LE
How many hours does it take to make LE I have been asked?????? I say years LOL
I love this middle centre; centres each side are not completed yet!!!!
How many hours do I spend on my LE I have been asked?????? Well those 4 tiny pale pink centre pieces (they look white here) took me 2 hrs to appliqué on last night!!!!!!!
OK an Update for Margaret who wanted a close ups of those tiny Pieces I appliquéd last night
Hi Margaret hope this photo helps. back ground fabric is brocade silk difficult to stitch through as it is so thick and tightly woven. I use a number 12 needle and bottom line thread to make it a little easier to push through the fabric. pale pink silk is a very very light weight silk that I have added iron-on-washaway freezer paper to give it some body and hopefully will not wear out to quickly. Pieces are 1 1/2 inchs long and 1/4 wide at the widest point. I found it fiddly to get those fine tapped points.
I was looking for something and found this panel instead and had to hang it, more circles LOL When I die people will think of circles LOL
Some times we find treasures made by another in the most unexpected places. Last week this embroidery came in to the shop, they had priced it for a couple of dollars, I picked the frame up to turn it around for the shoppes to see and realised it was needle work, the more I looked the more I saw. The dark waves are made from fine leather and I think most likely was gold but the weather up here is cruel to any thing leather and it is mouldy and now dark brown, I will see what i can do to restore it????? Frame is covered in dust and so is the cloth so IP will cover it with a fine gauze and try vacuum cleaning it first. It was hung this way
See how the threads are against the light and it looks dull!!!!!
Now I thought Im sure it should be hung the other way up??????
Walla!!!!! for years it must have been hung the other way!!!!!! Now we have a land scape with hills and then floating clouds or waves????? All the threads stand alone now and its magical.
Now to spend a few days cleaning it up, move the hanging wire so it hangs this way up and see what a beauty she is????
Our local Anglican 100 plus years old church.
Our local Opp Shop that I do volunteering work in is just below this church, we come under its umbrella.
I had been shopping at the old markets and while walking back noticed for the first time this photo shot of our 100 year old Anglican church, It was painted last year. Below it is were our Op Shop is built and I spend lots of my time. mostly laughing there.
Flame trees.
Flame tree flowers.
Carol tree
Giant Brom’s in flower
Heliconia a beautiful bunch
These torch heliconias never cease to amaze me????
Heliconia.
Pink Ginger Bud. This ginger is not eatable.
Ginger in full flower a stunning plant to have in ones garden but needs a good 4 meters square of space to grow well.
Native passion fruit flower does not produce fruit though.
My favourite tropical flower that is a native of here.
This little fellow was only about 1 1/2 inches. He was very difficult to photograph as every time I got close enough to take a shot he would do a little dance step side ways LOL.
Find the frog?????? He’s about 1 inch long. he must have come in when the door was left open. He has sat there all day and not moved an inch. I will put him out side tonight when he will want to start looking for food.
Thank you for visiting and staying long enough to read this LOL Im off to link up with Esther now.
Cheers Glenda
your flowers and plant amaze me all the time – they are so very pretty. Your work on LE is coming along really nicely – I have my center square back out and I am looking it over – 3 bouquets of flowers needed to finish that center block – better get busy. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas holiday!!
Hi Karen, I hope you will be with family and friends over Christmas and it is full of fun and laughter. Mine will be LOL. I only have my Chritmas mince fruit pies to make the rest will be done my my DDIL’s. I only make my Fruit mince pies the day they are eaten they always taste so much better straight from the oven. I make up a couple of kilos of pastry and keep it in the fridge, same as my minced fruit, I made up jars of it, then when the family calls in i go straight to the oven turn it on and in 30mins we have hot pies YUM!!!!! LOL I saw your LE up on you designer wall last week it looked so lovely. Thanks so much for keeping me company through out the year. Hope we both are well enough to enjoy a great 2017 together. Hugs Glenda
Your LE quilt is incredible!
Thank you so much Audrey, I have never enjoyed working on a quilt as much as I do this one, I have been working on it over 3 years now but still love working on it. It is very very intense when I do work on it as its all silk and very very slow so have to keep having breaks and putting it away for months some times. Merry Christmas. Cheers Glenda
Your flowers are so pretty, love the color. We’re having single digit temps here and it is cold and snowy. It is supposed to get windy so it will be REALLY cold with wind chill factor. I think it is so neat how you can take projects, clean them up and give them a new life. You have a special gift for it. Have a Merry Christmas with your family and warm temperatures. Blessings, Gretchen
Dear Gretchen, it is quiet mild here at present temps not over 27C which is low for us this time of the year, we are having the early monsoon clouds move across the sky most of the day that stops the real heat and makes it very very pleasant for us. Just hope the rainy season does not start before Christmas day. Will be nice to sit around the swimming pool all day with the grandies. If the rain comes it will be sitting inside play board games with them and cards LOL Was so pleased to read you had pulled your LE out again. Im doing a 2017 challenge with Meredith next year, its to work 3 straight weeks through out the year on 17 UFO’s LOL I about 30 Id like to do this to so have to choose 17 from those. We will share at the beginning of the year photo’s of the projects we choose then show what progress we make on them as the year passes. Thank you for your friendship over the year. Hugs Glenda
Your Christmas quilt is stunning! So fun to pull out every year. Merry Christmas to you, too🎄
Merry Christmas Ginabeth, some how this year Christmas sneaked up on me, this last week I have been trying to catch up, putting up the tree, making an extra 4 christmas serviette rings as we are having extra over seas guests, making the short pasty and fruit mince for the Christmas mince pies, a Christmas cake that is 1/4 eaten all ready!!!!! so I will make another on Thursday LOL We also have a icecream plum-pudding down here as well as the traditional one as it will be around 28C. Making up Christmas crackers, ironing white serviettes!!!!! Just hope the silver does not need cleaning LOL Christmas day I will do nothing as my 3 DDILs are doing the cooking. Hugs Glenda
Oh Glenda, so much beauty here. I hope you had a lovely, cool Christmas in your tropical paradise this year. I cannot even believe how much quilting you have accomplished this year, looking at all your progress is truly inspiring.
